5 Things I Do For Work Now That Claude/ChatGPT Has FULL Access to My Email, Calendar, and Drive

When Claude built MCP to access Gmail, Calendar, and Drive, I got excited. Finally, AI could understand my complete work context instead of getting fragments in isolated conversations.
But there's a catch: Claude can only READ my Google workspace. It can see client emails but can't draft responses. It can view my project spreadsheets but can't update them. It can access meeting notes but can't create new documents. In fact, ChatGPT and Gemini have these same problems as well.
It's like having a brilliant research assistant who's not allowed to write anything down.
The alternatives? Spend $200/month on Perplexity's Comet or wait hours for ChatGPT's agents to maybe work.
So I found an automation bridge that gives Claude (and now ChatGPT) full read-write access to Google Workspace. Now that 30-minute client update process takes 5 minutes, exactly like it should.

Now, you might be wondering how to give Claude and ChatGPT write access to Google products, right?
That's where Zapier's MCP integration changes everything. MCP (Model Context Protocol) lets Claude/ChatGPT connect to external services through Zapier. When they analyze a client email and determines I need to update my project tracker, it triggers a Zapier workflow that actually updates the GSheet.
It's like giving AI hands to match its eyes - it can finally act on what it sees.
The good news is Zapier's free tier covers these work scenarios, though with limited monthly requests. Luckily, you can increase the limit by paying it all you want.
Note: I previously used Make.com and n8n for this kind of workflow and more complex automations, but Zapier handles 99% of use cases with much simpler setup. I'll explore those advanced options in future posts.
